This warmer spring weather has me reminiscing and reliving Kendra and James’ beautiful wedding day at Watauga Highlands!

These two are from Wisconsin, but because they share a love for hiking and adventure, they decided to travel and get married in our mountains here in Tennessee! They found the most perfect gem of a venueβ€” Watauga Highlands, a private vacation rental that’s nestled on a hill near Johnson City and Elizabethton. The home is built half in the hill and has the most amazing views of the mountains, right in the front yard! It also has a covered stone patio, a cute barn and a huge yard area, making it such a great venue for a small to medium-sized wedding.

April showers bring May flowers, and boy did April bring the rain to us! The night before the wedding, rain pushed into our area and was supposed to continue the whole day on Saturday. Knowing this, we packed and prepared accordingly with rain jackets and umbrellas in tow. When we arrived, the mountains were super misty and the clouds were hanging above, but Kendra and James were in the best spirits despite the weather. After we photographed the dress and invitation, the rain let up and gave us the perfect backdrop for a mountain wedding! We continued the day with a super sweet first look with vows, a trip to a local park with the bridal party for portraits by the lake, and then a beautiful ceremony under the covered patio (thank goodness for the backup plan)!

After becoming husband and wife, we all gathered by the barn under a tent for dinner, toasts, and dancing. Next to the cake were Kendra and James’ favors- hiking socks! Kendra told me that they were made/sold at their local hiking store and offered for me to take a pair. Of course, I grabbed a pink, green and blue pair to add to my collection! I use them often and think about my super sweet couple and our love for hiking. At the end of the evening, the sun set over the mountain and the city lights twinkled at twilight and made for the most perfect reception.

Kendra and James- congratulations, you two! Your smiles and laughter are absolutely contagious. It was such an honor to capture your day and witness your love! Wishing you both years of happiness and adventures!
