Clay and Shawna’s intimate wedding was my last wedding for 2018 and man, did we go out with a blast!

Shawna and Clay are from Florida and first reached out to me back in August about photographing their intimate ceremony on Roan! They visit and got engaged at an outdoors camp in Black Mountain, North Carolina, so the Blue Ridge Mountains mean so much to them. They were originally hoping for an October wedding with Fall colors, but due to a busy schedule, we planned for the first weekend in November. Lucky for them, our peak Fall colors happened the last weekend in October/early November, so at least they were able to see the colors in the lower elevations. The higher elevations, however, gave us an amazing surprise- SNOW! As I was driving up the mountain on the way to their ceremony, I remember looking up and seeing the snow capped tips of the trees, knowing that’s where we were headed!

These two chose to have their ceremony in the wooded forest, instead of on top of the balds, so that their family members could be a part of it. Because of the shade, the snow that had fallen the night before gave us an unexpected winter wonderland! As soon as we started the ceremony, the sun beamed through the trees down at Shawna and Clay as they said their vows! After becoming husband and wife, we hiked up to the top for portraits! It may have been super sunny and a bit chilly, but these two rocked the winter weather and we had such a great time exploring the mountain together.

Clay and Shawna — I am so incredibly happy for you two! Your laughter and smiles radiate when you’re together and is so contagious. I had a blast getting to know you and capturing your day! Cheers to your next adventures together!

Huge thanks to all of Clay and Shawna’s vendors who made their day amazing!
