Marjorie and Nick drove all the way from Michigan to come say their vows on top of a mountain, in the heart of the Appalachians.

I'll never forget the day that I received Marjorie's inquiry, saying she wanted to get married on Roan Mountain, and on a Wednesday (weekday Roan weddings have my heart)! Her first tentative date had actually been during the week that my husband and I had already planned our family vacation. Thinking that I'd miss out on this awesome bride and groom, I emailed her the news and asked if she had any flexibility on the date. Marjorie responded back immediately and said that her previous date was not set in stone, so we planned for the week after! I just knew that their wedding day would be special.

Marjorie and Nick rented two, gorgeous, cabin Air BnB's to get ready in and host the reception in Banner Elk, North Carolina (just a hop and skip away from Roan). When I arrived, rain clouds loomed over the mountaintops. I kept an eye on the weather as the ladies were getting ready, hoping it would leave in time for the ceremony. Spirits were high as the bridesmaids did each others' hair and Marjorie and her daughter, Laura, danced around to music. After Marjorie's mom helped her get into her gorgeous gown, and a special prayer with the bride and her bridesmaids, Nick arrived for the first look. After Nick and Marjorie saw each other for the first time and had a minute together, we all hopped in our cars and headed for the mountain.

When we arrived at Carver's Gap, the weather was definitely being indecisive. At first, it was cloudy and misty, but the clouds were headed South and gave us a break of sunshine. We all hiked up the trail to the first bald, praying the sun would stay. After vows and rings were exchanged, and the first kiss as husband and wife, rain started slowly falling on top of the mountain. We rushed through family formals and bridal party portraits so that everyone could get off the mountain mostly dry. Luckily, Nick, Marjorie, and Drea (the videographer) were all down for an adventure and stayed on top of the balds through the rain and wind for portraits! Fog rolled across the balds, creating the most dreamy, mystical, landscape! We hoofed it off the mountain and drove through some downpours to finally arrive at the cabin for a warm, delicious, dinner and celebration.

Marjorie & Nick -- thank you for inviting me to be a part of your special wedding day! Thank you for your love for adventure and embracing the weather with such grace. I am incredibly happy for you and your family, and can't wait to see what the future holds for you!
